I was fitted for these shoes as I began the #c25K running program. I am not a runner - I play hockey - and running long distances has been a lifelong struggle due to knee pain, etc. The program and these shoes have been great - I ran 5K in under 35 minutes last night! The shoes are not that great looking, but they are built for stability. I have no foot pain and reduced knee pain after my workouts. They are comfortable and overall very supportive for a new runner - who might need a break in shoe to learn how to run.

To be sure these shoes are broken in for the Boston Marathon, I have put 67 miles on them. (I power walk, not run.) Apparently you have a serious problem with the BLACK rubber on the outside of the heel. This started out at just under 3/16" thick. IT IS NOW WORN TO THE POINT THAT THE GRAY PORTION OF THE BASE OF THE SHOE IS ALL BUT EXPOSED! I must save whatever wear is left for the Marathon (too late now to exchange), but fully expect that by the end of the race, the underlying gray base will be exposed. It appears that you must have had a bad batch of rubber in manufacture of this lot of shoes. There is no way that the heel should have worn off as quickly as this one did - on BOTH heels. NB has consistently been my shoe of choice, but if this is an indication of what I can expect in future, I will have to start looking at other brands. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement.
This one is a mystery but one that we are happy to help you solve. Our N-Durance® rubber outsole should be one of the most durable outsoles you will ever experience. The testing in our labs and in real-world applications has allowed us to develop a material that should hold up to anything you can give it. The mystery here is in determining what could have occurred to literally wear the outsole away. Ruling out a widespread product defect (which has not happened) leads us to inquire as to whether you are using the right tool for the job. You mentioned that you are power walking, and it's possible that a running shoe would be suitable for this, but our theory is that your stride may be putting an inordinate amount of pressure on the heel area (the walking stride is much different than our running stride). Since this happened with both shoes then we believe our theory is correct. We agree that this is disappointing but it's a great reminder of the importance of wearing the correct footwear for your intended activity. Let's talk directly and get your shoes exchanged out for a more suitable walking model. We want to remain your shoe of choice and retain your confidence in our fit and performance. This sounds like a simple case of "the wrong tool" but please know that we are here to help you get the right one.
