MR1064

I have been a long time aficionado of NB 106x shoes. The room, the support and overall feel of this line was excellent. Emphasis on "was". Sadly, the1064 is a major departure from the fine lineage of the 106x. The difference is in the amount of space at the ball and forward to the toes. For some strange reason, NB tightened up the width and lowered the ceiling. The result, is a shoe designed for a completely different foot. Well, at least not my feet. The shoe is so tight, uncomfortable and evidently boring, that it caused my foot to fall asleep while running. Now, I admit I'm not the fastest runner around. But somehow I don't think I run so slow that my feet would be lulled to sleep by the lack of exertion. All I can say is that if you like the older versions of the 106x NB running shoes, don't be surprised if these things seem a bit confining. The replacement? I'm still looking. I finally returned the 1064 and am looking for something else.

It's either my left foot is bigger than my right foot or the left shoe is smaller. I have to tight up the lace a little bit more for the right shoe; and yet it still feels a little loose at the heel. The left shoe fit perfect though. Overall, love the shoes. Definitely would buy again. Oh, I love the design of the shoe laces.

The 1064 seems to be lacking in the midfoot cushioning. I have a pair of 1062's that seems better cushioned in the midfoot area. My Asics Gel Cumulus are really well supported in the midfoot area. I am a 'heavier' runner at 93kg, but I have a very neutral gait. But I tend to pick up a soreness in my shins when I do either speedwork or higher mileage in the 1064's. I do not have the same problem with either the 1062's or the Asics.

The 1064 runs a little wider than the 1063 in the toe box area. Trying to go from a heel striker to a forefoot striker and the cushion helps a lot! Very comfortable shoes. If all is well in the next 50 to 100 miles, will buy another pair.

I am 64 years old and had spinal surgery in March due to severe stenosis and spondylolisthesis (vertebral shift) the nerve was squeezed causing severe leg pain when walking -actually it got to the point where I had pain no matter what I did- hence the surgery which has been an unqualified success. Although I do fitness walking, I have always preferred doing so in running sneakers/shoes. I actually had purchased a pair of 758's prior to surgery and just recently these. I did find that the 1064's do indeed run somewhat small, and instead of my usual 7.5 EE, I had to go with 8 EE. In any event they are incredibly comfortable and highly, but effectively, cushioned. I did see one reviewer say that the 1064's are not appropriate for exercise walking, but I totally disagree. With the great fit, comfort and cushioning they are really terrific. The fairly high price tag is absolutely warranted. I will certainly get another pair when needed.
